Long Ireland, Short US

I was reading different sites and blogs this morning, and I decided to get long both IRE and AIB off of the idea that Ireland will be announcing a plan to give the two banks 7-8 billion euro in capital. Kind of a buy the rumor, sell the news type of play, as I play to get out after the announcement. Not sure exactly how much they can go up, but I'm thinking new weekly highs would be nice, so around 4.50 for each bank is my target. My stop is around new weekly lows, so the 2.40 area. It's essentially a 2-to-1 risk/reward, but I feel good pretty good about it.

My other trade idea is a pretty simple one, short SPY once the S&P 500 breaks below 800. I think if we break 800, we're headed for new lows, and I would like to be on the boat when that happens. Just watching this closely, I think we'll break 800 sometime either this week or next week and after that, It will probably be a one week to one month time frame, looking for new lows and something that resembles a new bottom....

Anyway, those are pretty much my only two ideas right now.... Maybe more later.

Jan 29

Another pretty slow day. I definitely didn't trade much today at all. I shorted BAC and BDK early this morning and got stopped out for a loss in each. Then I churned around in the SPY trying to trade it off level 2, so no money made here today.

I'm definitely looking to do more research and more homework and allow myself to do more position trades and take on longer-term positions, like maybe a couple of days or so. We'll see how it goes.

Jan 28 Trading

Today was a fairly slow day, especially ahead of the fed meeting... I didn't trade too much....

On my first trade of the day, I shorted BAC pre-market at 7.65, and I wound up getting stopped out at 7.77 shortly after the market opened. Looks like I could have had that stop a little looser, because it did go down after that....

My next trade, I shorted BCS at 6.25, when I felt like it was breaking below it's previous dip. The trade went in my favor for a little bit, and then came back and just stalled there for awhile around 6.22, 6.23, so I wound up getting out at 6.22. Not much of a win there....

After that I traded ACN, which was showing a decent amount of size on the offer at 33.00, so I got short in front of that, it was taking forever and wasn't really breaking down, so I made like 2 cents and got out at 32.97.

After that I took it slow for awhile. Mid-day, I shorted a basket of bank stocks: BAC @ 7.49, C @ 4.11, WFC @ 19.99, and JPM @ 27.16.... this was about an hour before the FED meeting. Didn't really work out too well, the only one that I made any money on was BAC - I either lost a little or scratched the others....

That was pretty much it today. Like, I said it was a pretty slow day ahead of the FED announcement. Luckily, that's out of the way now, so maybe tomorrow will offer more opportunities....

Jan 27 Trading

It's been awhile since I posted on here, but I figured I'd start posting my position trades and ideas, etc. Especially since I've been actively trading this whole time.....

Still trying to learn how to trade though, so bear with me....

Today, I didn't trade too much, only did three trades early this morning and lost on all three of them. I keep it tight though.

My first trade today was AXP, I was watching this stock early and decided to short under the whole number when it broke through 16, so I shorted 15.99, didn't really go much in my favor, and within 2 minutes I got stopped out at 16.05. From the looks of this chart - it was that one wick that spikes up before the stock continued to go down.... lol.

Second trade of the day was WFC. Almost the exact same play, I got short right at the whole number at 16.00. I was out of this one pretty quickly at 16.09.

Third trade was BAC. I saw it stuck in this range, and I thought it broke the range to the downside, so I got short at 6.24, as you can see the stock then decided to go up and I was out at 6.30.

Three trades, three losses. I didn't trade much today, because I just couldn't really get a feel for it - market seemed real slow today going into this FED meeting, so hopefully it will pick up later this week and I can find some stocks in play that I can make some decent money on. We will see....

Sleep is Hard to Come By

Okay, so it's now officially my third week at work. My first week on the trading floor. I'm loving it!

But.... I come home from work and go straight to sleep. Yeah, I take a nap - for a few hours. It's just crazy, because I spent the first half of my summer staying up until 5 or 6 in the morning and sleeping until like 2 in the afternoon, and now I'm waking up at 6 in the morning.

I'm no longer a college student.

It's hard to fathom, almost. I work now, my schedule won't be changing each semester, it will be the same everyday - the market opens at 8:30 and closes at 3. I like to get to work by 7:30 and do some research on the computer and get prepared for the day ahead of me.

When, I get off work, I come home and go straight to sleep. Then, I wake up, eat dinner, watch TV for a couple hours and go back to sleep. My roomates stay up. I'm the roomate that goes to bed early. I have a bedtime.
